Chapter History:
The Dyersburg Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on November 16, 1973, by thirteen visionary women known as the "Significant Seven Plus Six." Chartered in the home of Emma B. Batts, the chapter proudly holds the distinction of being the first Black Greek-letter organization established in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Since its founding, the Dyersburg Alumnae Chapter has remained steadfast in its commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. Over the decades, the chapter has expanded its reach to serve Dyer, Gibson, Lake, Lauderdale, Obion, Weakley, and Tipton counties, positively impacting thousands of individuals through educational, civic, and community-based initiatives.
Our members are dedicated to addressing the needs of the communities we serve through programs that promote educational excellence, economic empowerment, health and wellness, civic engagement, and youth development. Signature initiatives include annual scholarship awards, educational planning and mentoring programs, community book drives, youth enrichment activities, voter registration and voter education campaigns, mental health awareness and wellness forums, and collaborative partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and civic groups throughout West Tennessee.
The chapter's rich legacy is strengthened by generations of dedicated members, including several charter members who continue to actively support the mission of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Their enduring commitment exemplifies the spirit of service and sisterhood that has defined the Dyersburg Alumnae Chapter for more than five decades and continues to inspire future generations of Delta women.
